Dr. Steven Collins: I came up with “Sodom Derangement Syndrome” to describe the phenomenon that
takes place whenever the subject of Sodom is brought up. Those who don’t respect the
historicity of the Bible dismiss it as moralistic fiction. On the opposite end of the
spectrum, the ID of Tall el-Hammam as Sodom is dismissed because “the date is too
late.” But, by now, we all understand that this kind of thinking is based on a mix of
factual and logical errors. But why is this?
